Project Feedback of Community Centre

Introduction

1.The title of the previous project: 

Community Centre

2.Description
The project is to design a community centre for people to participate in various activities. In the community centre, I designed a library, teahouse, other activities' rooms, a hall, a stair and toilets. Those activities'rooms, including a big room and two smaller rooms, are used by other activities and the used tooms of different sizes depending on the number of people attending the event.
3.Comment
1)It was perceived as lacking in the expressive targets of the building, who seemed to be perceived as young people. 
2)The final board is too blurry. 
3)The white background of the final board is better (the background is considered grey).
4)More interesting concepts are even better

Feedback

1.About targets 

My targets: Villagers and tourists in the Xidi village. Because the people in my project area couldn't open my form, I couldn't gather enough feedback. I can only guess that they prefer to spend their free time at the community centre chatting, playing sports, watching movies and other recreational activities.
The functions of those buildings I set up in reference to other rural community centres and cultural centres.

2.The background of the final board
Since the whole building was built of fair-faced architectural concrete, I wanted to use this background to highlight the materials I used.
If the white background looked better, I might make the background a little bit lighter, so it doesn't look too grey

3. The effect of the final product is blurry
When I filled the image with fair-faced architectural concrete in the background, I found the effect to appear squarely tidy. I wanted to atomize this tidy texture, so I added different transparency of the white.
If the effect is not good, I will turn up the white transparency to make the picture clearer.

4.More interesting concepts
The space is limited and cannot be displayed. I should use more space or reduce unnecessary pictures and content.

5. It is recommended to expand the content relative to the two sheets.
6. Maps take up too much space and are unnecessary.
7. The drawing is missing.
8. Do some indoor moving lines, like people.

Modification 

I used Sketchup to re-select some Angle images, then delete some maps and add some drawings. This time I talked a little bit about the background, the picture is a little clearer, the layout is a little more sent.

In this slide, I reduced the map, some small scene perspectives, and added some concept block generation. I also modified the text.

In this slide, I specify the dimensions of the drawing, which results in the drawing needing to be enlarged. I reselected the big picture because the original big picture had a similar Angle in the first picture.

The newly added image is a future interior transparent space, which is illustrated by the correspondence between the floor plan and the small scene perspective.

Website Design Research

Introduction 

My new project is to create a website myself.
After searching for some websites, I need to make a judgment on whether they are suitable for my project as references based on the following conditions, such as relevance, authority, and reliability.
The two websites, which I searched for, are the official websites of two architectural design firms of different sizes.

Evaluation Condition

I am going to probably evaluate those sites 'based on the criteria outlined'  (libguides, n.d.).

'OMA is an international practice operating within the traditional boundaries of architecture and urbanism. OMA is led by eight partners – Rem Koolhaas, Ellen van Loon, Reinier de Graaf, Shohei Shigematsu, Iyad Alsaka, Chris van Duijn, Jason Long, and Managing Partner-Architect David Gianotten – and maintains offices in Rotterdam, New York, Hong Kong, Beijing, Doha, Dubai and Brisbane.' Information categories

Summary

The two sites share some of the same elements, such as projects, contacts, and introductions, but their page composition is not the same, so the corporate culture to express, design style is not the same.

Final Board

Final Board I

The project is designed to be located in Xidi village, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, China. It is in a small village in the mountains, where the houses are crowded but with distinct characteristics of classical Chinese architecture.

The project is to design a community centre for people to participate in various activities, and designed library, teahouse, a big room, two smaller toom, a hall, a stair and toilets. Those rooms are used by other activities and the used tooms of different sizes depending on the number of people attending the event.

According to my pictures, there are some common building materials, mainly concrete, but also some steel, glass and wood chips and tiles in this project, because the project is located in a village and the surrounding buildings are all white tiled houses. Concrete is the walls and structure of the rooms, the Windows are steel and glass, the roof is tiled and the outer walls are decorated with wood.

The layout that I designed is a two-floor building and a garden where there are exercise areas, water areas and green areas. 

1) The reason why I design the garden is that I think the residents of the village need some simple exercise equipment, and facing the water is a good experience when people are drinking tea or reading books, and children can like it.

2) As for the building, I designed the two-floor building to make the garden bigger.

 Final Board II

In this project, I adopt architectural concrete. This is a kind of natural concrete wall surface without any decoration after demoulding. It makes the building a simple 

and natural quality and the right template will make the building look naturally beautiful.

Making Final Board

Because this project design style is clean and clean, I choose this font called 'Goudy Old Style'.

3) Identify the background colour

Architectural concrete is the main material of this project, So I chose its pattern is as the background colour.

This logo room is a sketch I drew based on the north-south section of the building.

My perspective looks fake. Because my plug-in didn't work, I couldn't make a more realistic effect picture. I chose to partially blur them to make them look a little hazy without regard to image fidelity.

Design Process

Simple layout

Firstly, I identified how many rooms and what the rooms are in the building.
As a two-story building, there must be plenty of toilets and stairs, and as a double-function building, there will be a space like a hall to distinguish the public space from the activity space of the villagers. Also, as the teahouse and library are open to all as public Spaces, they are placed on the ground floor. The activity rooms are on the second floor. 

Then, generally speaking, the column spacing of the small building is 6 to 9 meters. And I decided the building was a square box.

Next, I found the length of the stairwell is less than the length of a column spacing due to the height of 3 meters. 

Then, I decided to dig out a piece of the space behind the stairs and open a door on the side as an entrance to the garden from a library or tea room inside.

So, I make a simple drawing blew in CAD.

Firstly，based on this simple diagram, I made a model.

Then, I started trying to pull the block up.

Next, I suddenly think of something if it is better to put those small boxes on the ground floor or the first floor. 

If the boxes appear on the ground floor, I can use the top as a first-floor terrace or as a gentle slope top. However, the patio in the activity room is a space with very low utilization rate, and making a gentle slope does not seem to look good. 

So I arranged the protruding boxes on the second floor.

Then, I began to make more elaborate models.

'Tadao Ando's Liangzhu Village Cultural Art Centre'(Cen, 2018)

Next, Since the library needed to be quiet, I arranged the reading space on the side near the garden. In the previous reference, it was a good experience to face the water with a large glass curtain wall in 'Tadao Ando's Liangzhu Village Cultural Art Centre' (Cen, 2018). So I made the library space a glass wall next to the garden wall, and then set up a wading pool next to the building for children to play in.

Then, I found that this two-piece eave has only two directions, while the prominent space box is in the other direction, so a large roof covering the entire building is made as 'Studio Dali Architects'community cultural centre' (Han, 2019).

Next, I tried to design the surface.

Then, I started to design the bookshelf in the library. I decided to design a steel stair to the first floor in the library.

Next, I put it on the module and found The corridor seemed dark. 

So, I set a window on both the north and south of two floors.

Then, I designed the garden briefly according to my initial sketchbook. I made a chair to match the building and put it in the garden.

Next, when I looked at the space in the building, I found that the big room on the second floor across it maybe too dark, because there were only Windows at the end. I had a skylight on the roof porch, with high side Windows on both sides of the hallway to keep the light up.

Finally, the model is done for the time being, and then it is painted as CAD.

Case Study

Keywords

Before designing, I need to search for something about my project to get some inspiration. I should think about how to choose my case study.

First, this is a community centre.
The project is designed to be located in Xidi village, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, China. It is in a small village in the mountains, where the houses are crowded but with distinct characteristics of classical Chinese architecture. The houses around the site are no taller than six meters. The size of the site is 25m*35m.

After searching for some buildings, I found that there are three cases that I have searched for and I like. 

Case1

Liangzhu Village Cultural Art Centre/Tadao Ando 

The building is located in the historic Liangzhu Village, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China, designed by Tadao Ando. Although it is a very big building, it really makes me impressive.

In the building, the local library is designed to use bookshelves as partition walls, which is very interesting to divide the space. 

The triangle seems to appear everywhere in the building, from the landscape to the triangular skylights on the roof. There seems to be no pattern, walking in the building will suddenly have the sunlight streaming down.

Also, there is a wading pool in the outside of the building, which is shallow with the cherry trees.

Case 2

Capsule Hotel and Bookstore in Village Qinglongwu / Atelier tao+c

'This is located in an ancient village named after a stream in a deep forest in Tonglu, Zhejiang province. An old wooden and mud-walled house is entwined on a path in the village, facing the green mountains to the south and east, and the lower courtyard to the north.'

'Commissioned by the client, studio tao + c redesigned and rebuilt the 232-square-metre old building by inserting a 20-person capsule hotel, community bookstore and library into a 7.2-metre two-storey space.'

I have never been to this place, but it is interesting to see the variety of staircases in a large, full-height space. And at the end of the bookshelf in the corner of the house is a glass to form a transparent large space, very suitable for meditation.

Case3

Community Cultural Center / Studio Dali Architects

This is a cultural centre built in a small village after the earthquake reconstruction.

A large roof with local characteristics that wraps the entire building, when the height of the surrounding space in the roof is insufficient，opening a hole in the roof to form a large platform for communication and the latter atrium. 

It also is an interesting building.

Inspirations(may)

I was inspired by some element of these cases.

• I may use the bookshelf walls from cases 1 and 2 in my building's reading space.
• I may use the outdoor wading pool from case 1 in the garden.
• I may use the large roof from case 3.
• For the main building materials, I used Architectural concrete from case 1.
