Website Design Research

Introduction

My new project is to create a website myself.
After searching for some websites, I need to make a judgment on whether they are suitable for my project as references based on the following conditions, such as relevance, authority, and reliability.
The two websites, which I searched for, are the official websites of two architectural design firms of different sizes.

Evaluation Condition

I am going to probably evaluate those sites 'based on the criteria outlined'  (libguides, n.d.).

1.Relevance
1)Audience
2)Language
3)Connection (relevance) to task
4)Amount of information

2.Authority
1)Author
2)References

3.Reliability
1)Kind of information
2)Objectivity
3)Primary / Secondary source
4)Goal

Website One

1. The name of website:
https://oma.eu/
2. Description& founder:
This is a website of 'Office for Metropolitan Architecture'(OMA).
'OMA is an international practice operating within the traditional boundaries of architecture and urbanism. OMA is led by eight partners – Rem Koolhaas, Ellen van Loon, Reinier de Graaf, Shohei Shigematsu, Iyad Alsaka, Chris van Duijn, Jason Long, and Managing Partner-Architect David Gianotten – and maintains offices in Rotterdam, New York, Hong Kong, Beijing, Doha, Dubai and Brisbane.' (OMA,n.d.)

3. Evaluation:

   1) Relevance:
  • Audience: General public, particularly those with an interest in the buildings of Koolhaas and his partners, maybe students, other architects, clients who want OMA to design.
  • Language: English
  • Connection (relevance) to my task: it is related to my major and career that is about the architectural field.
  • Amount of information: most of the information about OMA's projects, activities, publications and offices.
  • Content Tendency: The project involves all aspects of architectural design. In addition, the addition of lectures and publications to the project category expresses a tendency to evolve from design to other fields.
  2) Authority
  • AuthorAll the information inside is published, managed and updated by OMA staff.
  • References: The project information is self-created, and some of the events held at the project site are from OMA's magazine or other institutions
  3)Reliability
  • Kind of informationThe information of this website is divided into four categories, among which 'OMA' and 'WORK' are their buildings, lectures, publication, and people, 'OFFICE' is the contact information of OMA and all its offices, and finally 'SEARCH' is to provide in-site search information. (OMA,n.d.)
  • Objectivity:  positive descriptions of OMA
  • Primary / Secondary source: Should be used as a Primary source
  • Goal: Learn all the information about OMA from OMA's perspective, so as to promote OMA.

Website Two

Information categories

Summary

The two sites share some of the same elements, such as projects, contacts, and introductions, but their page composition is not the same, so the corporate culture to express, design style is not the same.

  1. It would have been best here to include the actual Web Evaluation Exercise form from the learning materials. The purpose of this exercise was to evaluate sources of information and was not focused on the design of websites as such. It seems that you have misunderstood this and could be useful to complete the exercise again. Please make sure you keep this blog post but develop it further and discuss more in-depth how this informs the design of your own website.
