New project for website & Reflection for all works

1. New project: Waterfront Hotel

I inserted pictures and descriptions according to the template on my website.

Based on the logo on my final presentation boards that represented my hotel design, I made the background image for this new project.

2. Reflection for all works:

In this term, I learned how to do design in research. During this term, I worked on a long term project about a painting and several short term projects about a book and a warrior.
In these studies, what excites me is the process of design, because I have different ideas about IE from before after studying literature. To my dismay, my time management. I try to minimize the final time of each step, but I still procrastinate.

As for my study in this semester, my negative part is my poor communication with my tutor. Sometimes I cannot understand my tutor's question when I communicate with her in English. After class, when I thought about it again, I realized that I did not understand the teacher's question, because, I found that my answer actually had nothing to do with the teacher's question. For this, the fundamental reason is that my English is weak and I need to improve my English. In addition, regarding market research, this is also my weak point. As for the design of the market research, I have not been able to do well-researched market research, most of it is my guess.

For the next project, I should do a good job of time management and keep up with my progress. I should also actively communicate with my tutor.

Swimming Hole: Final Board

Swimming Hole: Research & Making process of Presentation Board

 1.Research of Presentation Board

'Before you begin laying out your presentation board, think about the main points you want to convey. From there, determine what images and graphics will best represent those ideas. Gather all of the information you will need, making a note of what graphics and text you will need to communicate your ideas.
Remember, you are essentially telling a story, so pay close attention to the flow of the narrative as you arrange your elements. Consider the beginning, middle, and end of the story you want to tell. '( Archisoup, n.d.)

According to Archisoup, the board itself tells a story. I began to try to arrange my story.

2. My Layout
The black sign in the upper left corner is made according to the shape of my building.

3. Making
Based on my previous drawings and my layout, I started to make the final presentation board in PS. When I needed to put my text up, I found that the page seemed too crowded, so I adjusted the layout,

Those words come from my previous work.
I only rewrote my project overview.
the content:
My assignment theme is about 'the Swimming Hole', painted by 'Thomas Eakins'(Lubbock, 2008), which shows a group of naked young people swimming in a natural environment. The atmosphere of taking a vacation in the natural environment reminds me of the architecture of a hotel, which reflects the free penetration between the architectural site, natural environment and architecture.

Inspired by the swimming hole, I chose a high ground in the water as the building site and the rock as the outer wall of the building. I adopted the form of interweaving architectural space and natural environment to design the hotel form. According to the relationship between the site and the surrounding buildings, the needs of the hotel's target customers, and the hotel's own functions, the internal space will be set up. In the process of design, architecture is finally presented in a beautiful way from its own functions, the spirit of the site, the needs of users and other aspects, which is also the practicality of the architecture I expect.

Swimming Hole: Adjustment Design & Architectural Drawings

 1. Adjustment Design

1) Floor Adjustment

  • Insert the pillars
  • Modify the layout of the hall and suites
  • Add access ramp for disabled persons
  • Adjust the spiral staircase in the dining room
  • Draw the road, parking space and pool within the site
2) Refining drawings
  • Set up the dining room and office
  • Draw other floor plans
  • Add labels and elevations

2. Architectural Drawings

1) Research

I searched for some pictures of buildings on the Internet. I will use the colours and elements on this picture to make my architectural drawings.

2) How to make them

For those architectural drawings that need clear dimensions, I first draw them in CAD and then import them into PHOTOSHOP to fill in the colours.

For 3D renderings, After making the electronic model in Sketchup, I selected the appropriate Angle to import into PS for photoshop. Since my computer couldn't run the rendering software, I had to edit them in Photoshop.

My CAD drawings

I imported the line draft into PS, and then completed my drawing with the colour configuration in the reference drawing I studied before.

Website: Modification

Suggestions from teachers and classmates on my website focus on the lack of more texts and pictures related to my major or work.

I modified my website to make it look more professional according to the Suggestions of teachers and classmates.

1. Home page:

1) Original home page image: from MIX's map depot.

This picture doesn't have much to do with my content and my profession.

2) Because my subsequent major is architectural design, I chose one of my previous works as my homepage picture.
This is a commercial building, which is a high-rise building integrating office, apartment, shopping.
The architect is at the beginning of the sequence of city buildings. His name is Yingbin Building, which means welcome. I use it as the homepage picture to express the meaning of welcoming visitors.

I matched the colour of the image to the background of my home page.

3) Other change

I deleted some project pictures that were related to painting but not related to my major in the previous homepage

2. Contact page

1) Original page
Again, this background image is not relevant to my major.
The contact list only has an Email option, which makes it difficult for people to contact me.

2)  I chose a construction in the library of the community centre on my website for my background photo.

The structure is a bookshelf against the walls on either side.
I've blurred the background to highlight the contact form.

3) Other change:
I changed the contact form and added some visitor information and the purpose of contacting me, so as to better help me understand the visitor more accurately.

Also, I deleted the icon of Instagram, because the content in it was not relevant to my major or doing it for you in the Champions League.

3. 'My story' Page

1)  Original page:
The photo, I took., shows a snow scene.
Neither the photos nor the text has much to do with my major or my work.
And the next small square of a personal business card, the arrow points to the voice-over space, which is to give the wrong direction.

2) Text adjustment:
I use the artist statement of my previous blog.

'I am an architect. I have conceptual designs for hotels, galleries and art galleries, and I have been engaged in residential design during my work. Architectural design is a process and system that starts from its own function, the spirit of the site, the needs of users and other aspects to achieve a kind of integration of architecture and natural landscape and create a comfortable, beautiful spiritual experience, which is also my expectation of the practicality of architecture. In the process of design, I usually use pencil or pen to add tracing paper to develop my initial ideas through my sketching skills and then deepen my design on the software, such as Photoshop, Sketchup, AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator.

For me, the design has always been a journey full of wonderful scenery. From the initial idea to the final shape, it is a process of self-struggle and thinking, as well as a process of communicating with customers or others. Although I haven't built work so far, I hope to see one in the future.'

3) Picture change:
My story page represents an analysis and recognition of ego I, so I choose a ray map of my building as my background image
a courtyard perspective of the community centre on my website

I adjusted the layout.

4. Project Page

I deleted some pictures of projects not related to my major in the project page.

5. Other Modification
I deleted 'feedback and UX Testing form'

Swimming Hole: Design Development of Facade & Landscape

1. Further Research

1)  Exterior finishing material  Rock

①The material is the rock from the painting 'the Swimming Hole'( Eakins, 1885).

(the Swimming Hole, painted by Thomas Eakins,1885)
Since the source of this project is a scene describing a natural environment, I plan to select some elements of this painting to add to my design, such as rocks. I used the rock as my exterior wall decoration, a rock hidden among the trees, which is a very natural scene.

② Possible facade example:

The outer surface is composed of regular long thin Windows and horizontal Windows.

2) Other Materials:

Steel, glass, reinforced concrete: common materials in modern architecture.

② Their facade:
Or

2. Facade development

1) Import Sketchup from CAD

2) Modelling

① Key points of exterior surface design:

---The dining area of the restaurant is as fully glazed as possible to make it open and transparent, allowing guests to enjoy the surrounding scenery.
---The internal side of the winding corridor connecting the guest room area and the hall should be completely open without walls. The external side of the wall should be built with thin Windows or hollow bricks.
---The guest room balcony area is grated with black steel.
---Skylight is opened at the top of the stairs to increase lighting and space richness.

To sum up, the side facing the lake or garden should be as wide open as possible, and the side facing the road should be as wide open as possible.

② Vertical setting

There is only one floor for the lobby and cafe area, two floors for the standard parts area and three floors for the suite area.

3) Whole effort

3. Landscape

1) The existing landscape of the site
Green circles represent taller trees,
Orange circles represent some shrubs,
White circles represent hillsides.
There is also an old concrete platform on the hillside.

2)Landscape strategy
  • Staying the trees, some of the bushes, and clear out the messy bushes.
  • Maintaining the general slope of the hill, eliminate part of the hill to build a small number of parking spaces
  • The terraces on the hillside are surrounded by vines. To create a new landscape, the railing at the edge of the platform is covered with vines.
  • The building's opened courtyard has a sink and loads of trees on the other side near the kitchen.
3) Whole effort
